Detra, A turnaround time of 24-48 hours is common. As long as the students know what to expect and when to expect it and you stick with the guidelines you provide, that's great. The specific emails are a must. Many times students don't realize the instructor teaches more than one course and we need details. Thanks!
Phyllis, Suggested timelines can help many students. I even have part of the project due periodically to ensure they are working on the project. They get points for turning the part of the project in and it does help them stay on track. These benchmarks (as you note) are helpful!

Sandra, We all work to make our balance better, but I think the key is that we are working toward a better balance. Thanks for your tips. Sounds like you're on the right track. Do what works for you and your students. We all have to! ;-)

Adib, A cut-off time is as important as a start time and designating specific time to work on grading or feedback. We all need the family/friends time. We just have to balance the time we have. Thanks!

Detra, Definitely. I even put it in my syllabus that students should be proactive in their communication and not reactive. I do not accept late work, so communication after the fact does not help the students. I do tell students their proactive communication should also include what they do not understand. I am not a mind reader and I don't understand what they don't understand unless they tell me what they don't understand. I tell them that. ;-) Hope this is helpful.

Sandra, I get so confused when the "institution" tells the instructor when grading must be completed? That does not allow the instructor much flexibility. Would they consider all grading must be completed within 48 hours of the assignment or something like that? Thanks!

Adib, How may of your students take advantage of one-on-one tutoring? It's a great resource and I wonder how many students realize that. Thanks for sharing.
Phyllis, Great job. The tips sheet or a FAQ discussion board all provide good information to students. The more they can decipher themselves, the more we can start to eliminate information overload. Thanks!
Racquel , Students can be let down by their own anticipation. . .but they should earn what they earn. With appropriate rubrics, a connection of the content to learning outcomes, and appropriate assignments, there should be no question on what they have earned. Thanks!

Jacqueline, You are right and there are so many things to think about. But, we have to think about them and move the students forward to help them achieve the learning outcomes. Nice job.
