Ann, Oh - you are not alone. It's challenging for lots of us. But, you learn time management and workload management skills as you go along. Keep working on keeping up! ;-)
Ann, Contact, interaction and prompt feedback. Excellent things to strive to do with our students. Glad you also mentioned the principles from Chickering and Gamson. Nice job.
Daron, You are right. Too many or poor criteria can hinder learning instead of improve learning. Good point!

Daron, You are right. The more we lose the F2F component, the more we need to think carefully about our communication with students. The rubric is a communication tool to help students understand the expectations as well. Thanks!

John , Love the phrase "foundation of expectations." That says it all. We have to all be on the same page with expectations so the students can do the work and we can help them succeed. I like your model answers approach. Thanks!

ron , And, they help the students understand the expectations more clearly and understand how they will be assessed. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
Aaron, Yes, the students benefit from the rubrics, but the instructors do as well. Rubrics help us be more objective in grading and as we write the criteria, it makes us think carefully about the assignments/expectations we set. Thanks!
Discussion Comment
ron , Right on. If the students don't know how to use the technology, communication tool or whatever, they won't be as successful. We have to help them with these things to help them succeed. Thanks!

Aaron, I am glad you brought up the fact that all students should be treated equal. No favoritism is a good rule to follow in assignments and communication. Thanks!
ron , A pattern happens over time, so it does take time to communicate effectively. Each course and all students are different so we try different things some times each semester. Keep it up!
