Time management is a very crucial tool for administrators, something that I'm continuing to work on even though I've been in administration for many years. It's a work in progress and something that is continually changing.

Being able to come up with new ideas of tackling problems and improving processes is an absolute necessity in every line of work, but especially in education. Things are changing daily, and often times, a simple switch in the way a process is done or eliminating a form or meeting can help streamline and improve things. It's just a matter of thinking in new ways.

I think one huge part of empathy ... and effective leadership, for that matter ... is the ability to not only truly listen to understand, but to also realize when, in fact, you are wrong about something. True leaders who take the time to show their humility (and their humanity) have a lot more of my respect.

I've heard some say that there is very little validity in this approach to explaining learning styles, hearing that it has been no longer accepted by scholars. Well, all I can say is that learning styles make a lot of sense to me. I am a kinesthetic learner. I know from my own experience that lecturing or something that isn't hands-on isn't going to sink very far in. From my experiences in the classroom, I also know that gearing lessons to a variety of learning styles makes the class more engaging and interesting.

Taking the time to switch the focus from talking to listening is a huge part of emotional intelligence. It takes practice, but it yields great results and genuine dedication.
