The Nursing Process includes the steps in problem solving

Problem solving is critical to patient care. Being able to gather information and correlate and implement a plan of care for patients is essential to the complex health care needs of the patients today.

Characteristics of critical thinkers include open mindedness, active listening, and analysis with problem solving strategies. It is a process that can be developed over time.

Identifying various learning styles and preferences allow for a variety of teaching modalities to utilized. It encourages students success based on their learning style and individual needs,

Because students are multilingual and culturally diverse, understanding culture and language differences enhance student learning. It includes them in conversation and often clarifies what they are learning. 

Both culture and race impacts the students learning in the classroom. Embracing and acknowledging our differences are important to understanding and helping others in health care.

Working in small groups, allows for collaborative learning. Identifies areas of student learning needs and clarifies the important information for the class.

Getting to know your students helps to identify different learning styles for being an effective teacher in the classroom. Being aware of cultural differences, avoid stereotyping, and gender bias provides a more conducive learning environment.

Critical thinking is developed in both the classroom and the clinical venues. Past knowledge and new knowledge obtained with probing questions and case scenarios allows for the students to integrate what they have learned.

Students develop critical thinking by engaging them in the classroom and asking robing questions. This allows them to recall valuable information from previous courses as well as integrate their new knowledge.
