I agree Karen.  The takeaway is that  records that are protected by FERPA are not susceptible to the HIPAA Privacy regulations and can be shared, for example to parents responsible for the dependent children.

It is so vital that we are familiar with FERPA and the many guidelines.  FERPA is more than at system to protect students' privacy, it also is important to protect their rights to access their records.  Noted!

It is so important to know FERPA compliance.  It not only protects the institution and its' employees, but the students as well.  In addtion, certain procedues and policies must be in place for protection of the students' privacy.

FERPA provides students access to their school records and students have certain rights in reference to their records that we must abide by.

Education and prevention is so important to prevent sexual and other assults.  It was interesting to learn that more than 50% of sexual assults against women that go to college took place off-campus, at a party.  This really puts them at risk.

It is very important to investigate any complaint whether it is on or off campus or whether or not it was reported to the police if the coordinator has knowledge of the incident.

The role of the Title IX coordinator or their designee is crucial to support any student/employee that may fall prey to sexual or gender-based discrimination.  The information obtained should be reported in a timely manner.

The course material is very informative and helpful.
