About me

Activity

Writing our lesson plan I took into concideration that someone with less experiance than myself will have to teach this course as well. Putting in a step by step "how to" for the student anso helps with a covering or "sub" for the day
I teach a couple different classes the first course I am in is an interductery course. Using real life exaples keep the student interested on how this is relevent to his future in the field. The other course is at the end of the program, using a pre test lets me know how much they have retained
This gives the student another "way" to learn. If a student doesn't understand. Try a different method. Something they can relate to
in our technical school social networks are only used on a limited basis, to keep students informed of up coming events and such. No real place in our classroom.

I find in a technical school that the gen y'ers are easily distracted during lecture. but during a hands on lab situation they are much more attentive.

We will have each student do a task multible times. This will increase the retention more than just having the student do it once and move on.

We have self study assignments that we review just to make sure the student reads the lesson plan for the following day. this helps the student get an understanding of what will be covered that day.

When you have a wide range of learning styles in a classroom. one teaching style doesn't work.
Discussion Comment
This process is different for each student. One may be "book" smart, One may need to "See It" while another may be "Hands On". a quality instructor has to adapt to each learning style. Try different methods and see which one works best for the type of student you are dealing with at that point in time.
I feel it is very important that the student let you know up front the first day that they have a problem. this way you can help the right from the start and they will not fall behind. catching up is hard to do .. I may have to explain something several different ways for the student to understand. Doing this in a group setting gives another prespective for the other students as well
