Personally emailing students can be a huge advantage when it comes to students feeling support, confronting disruptive students, or encouraging shy students to participate. 

In the classroom, learners are able to see non-verbal cues communicated by the teacher. Because students cannot see non-verbal cues online, a way instructors can use non-verbal communication is by utilizing emoticons. 

One on one relationships are important in the classroom and online. In order to get to know learners and for learners to get to know eachother online, is by having each learner write a biography. 

It is important for learners to feel supported in the classroom and online, and it is up to the teacher to provide that support! Online support can be provided by maintaining a consistent presence online. I plan on replying to all of my students discussion answers or comments in a timly manner, to show them that I am reading their responses and I can clarify any questions.
