I was unaware that humans are hard wired to remember 5-7 things before retention rate drops.  I plan on keeping this in mind when supplying concepts to my students.

I already apply many of the practices laid out in this section, but the one I am most interested in implementing that I have limited experience with is pretests.  I think they can be wonderfully beneficial tools that can be consistently referred back to throughout different sections of the class, and they allow students to experience the content before they label the concepts.

Making students more aware of learning objectives in multiple places and with diverse mediums can ensure that students come into class with an in-depth understanding of what the course is going to entail.  This will allow students to be more prepared which can help the teacher be more prepared to assist the students in their learning.

As educators we wear many hats, but I think we often forget that each of our students also wears their own hat in the classroom.  If we hope to be good, effective teachers, then we must make sure to let the students determine their success as well.  Each learner has unique strengths, and we as their instructors must change our own hats with each individual student to help them harness and grow in their own learning; this will create strong learners who will be able to take the reins on their education and will respect us as mentors.  We may… >>>
