Being engaged in your class is the most important thing you can do. Showing up with a positive attitude and just a little bit of excitement in the thing you've delivered 10,000 times makes the biggest difference.

Just being aware of how a student is posting or acting in your class is more than half of the battle. We need to be aware of when something external is effecting their ability to progress and find the best way to support that.

Being compassionate and listening to a student it key. Our day to day gets drowned out by constant excuses, or in the most part, silence. When a student does speak up, we need to take the time to listen and evaluate the situation.

Every day we hear the newest craziest thing a student can say. We always need to reply with patience and understanding. That is something I feel I am great at.

I also love the importance of "Why." Students want to know why they are learning something, and if we don't show why, then it wasn't importnat to them.

Motivation is a huge part of keeping a student going. Finding the moments to praise them, even when they struggled on an assignment can give them that small bit of internal motiviation to keep going. While it's difficult to offer many external rewards in an online environment, giving them the confidence to move forward internally is key.

While I love the idea of students being able to have more choice of the order they can complete things, it can be difficult to execute that in a program that is based off of technical skills that build upon one another. I do support the idea of giving them more choices when it comes to how they can execute a final project, but not in jumping around a course.

I've learned that students like to be paired up and work in smaller group settings. Unfortunately, very little of this module applies to the online platform that we operate in.

I've learned that adult learners are more motivated when they see how it will affect their day to day outcomes. That they want to be able to tackle it at their own pace.
