There are student that are going to challenge the system. having clear guidlines and being open and willing to converse should alleviate most of these challenges

Maintaining an active forum board will reach and engage more students than dry lecture. be concise be timely, must important be real. if you don't know own it and then find the best answer.

I learned I need to become tech savy enough to run two separate forums for the students. one for course content one for all the other questions a student might ask for their peers. Also a private forum is required for students questions for me.

I feel the on-line evvironment may become stifling to students. When in class I have had students ask questions that while not specifically on topic brought the class together as we explored the answer. I don't think I will have as much flexability to do something like this on-line. I myself will have to become much more structured and driven by dates and schedules. I will need to find ways to be interactive while still being distant. New technologies allow this to happen I just need to learn how to utilize them.
