In the previous test, there was a question about True / False question that had the supposed answer to be : Always use more false questions. I find that irrelevant. I don't get it. Why?
Test should be designed to find out what the students know, not to see if you are more clever than your students. I never design questions to trip up my students. Sometimes during a quiz a student may ask..."is this a trick question". My response is always..." it may be a tricky question but it's not a trick question". Tricky eludes to the idea that there may be a subtle aspect to the answer, but the question is not design to trick someone into the wrong answer.

As most good instructors know, creating and asking a "good" question is harder than most people think. One of my methods for reviewing for a test is to have the students ask each other questions. I let the students have their notes and handout in front of them. Then each student has to come up with a question. Each student will state their question verbally. If the question is vauge, I will make them restate the question. Sometimes questions are open to the whole class. Other times the question is to be answered by the next student seated. If that… >>>

For me, I do not let them take quizzes over again. Like you mentioned, it would be unfair to the students that where prepared the first time. So, I don't think tests should be given again....unless.....there has been a break down of the learning process. An example would be that the highest grade was a 70. Then you would need to re-lecture using difference learn modes or teaching statigies to better communicate the topic. Then re-test them. Projects I do different. Since doing projects are where some of the real learning proceses occur, I let them re-do projects. Like all… >>>

Where's the line between the two. Is letting a student take a quiz several times until he/she passes help the student to learn or is that "coddling".
When I have time to review previous lectures or for reviewing for a quiz, I will have each student in the class create a quiz question (from the current subject)in their head and ask the rest of the class the question. I think looking at the topics from a different view points helps a student broaden their understanding of the topic and enables them to apply the newly acquired information in a small but meaningful way. I will try not to go on to the new topics until everyone in class has come up with a good question.
