About me

I have taught in traditional community colleges for 13 years. I started my first term with a career college four weeks ago. I am in the process of learning how to make my subject matter applicable to people who are ready to start careers in something seemingly unrelated to what I teach.

Interests

watching movies, psychology, brain and behavior, student motivation

Skills

cognitive and biological psychology

Activity

I am a psychologist and sometimes I have to role-play scenarios for students to truly understand a topic. This also makes the topic more applicable to their lives and may show them that they have gone through a similar situation. In doing so, sometimes I curse and use "four-letter" words. They also add shock value, which helps with retention.

Often the most under-stated characteristic of teaching and lecturing. Treat students with respect. Show them your topic is interesting and practical to their everyday lives. Talk with them, not at them. Focus more on learning than strict policies and punishments. Try to remember that they are adults and need to be treated as such

Continuing education for those in the psychological arts

A little annoyed that I *have* to do this. I just don't feel like I have enough time to blog and read through all the responses to pull anything useful out of them
