About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Agree, if you are not measuring progress on goals all along the way, they are definitely unreasonable. Ryan
Yes and providing a chance for true dialogue & discussion is vital as well. Ryan
Christina, This is a good point and I would add that you should be ready to communicate effectively if you should need to change paths or not be able to deliver on what you had said. We can't always deliver, so we need to be ready to provide a good explanation as to why the needed change. Ryan

Agreed & through leadership & coaching you can help the team be in even better alignment. Ryan
Very good point Sandra. The added advantage you have with students in a classroom is the very interactive environment you can create & use that to gather good feedback from them. Ryan
Yes, just like in the classroom, its important to constantly be "reading" your audience to see if they are with you or if you need to "redirect" your presentation. Ryan
Rick, Thanks for adding an idea that had not been shared before: Prepared for the worst case scenario. This is very important, but if we are prepared & ready to adapt & be flexible, really nothing can throw us off our game. Murphy is always present! Ryan
This is a great plan & along with this making sure they learn to use those same tools/skills. Ryan
This is a good strategy. One caution would be regarding trying to show you have the same experiences. The caution is that you might not have the exact same experience & they may view this as you dismissing them & their personal concerns. Ryan
Thank you Kathleen. I would add to your point about relaxing during the speech: actually try to enjoy your presentation. Not in an arrogant way, but while you are giving your speech you should be the room's foremost expert on that topic. Let this flow through you & really enjoy the opportunity. Ryan
