About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Great point & I strongly believe that the most powerful combination is when both skill sets are possessed by a leader. Ryan

I completely agree with you Jack. Management & coaching should not be viewed as mutually exclusive, but rather when we can combine both skill sets we can be that much more effective. Ryan
Absolutely. Where are they coming from, what is their background, what is their history with my office or group? Positive, negative? All of these are great questions to be asking. Ryan
Yes, cool, calm & collected. Emotions will be present during negotiations, but the more we can learn to effectively manage them the more effective we will be at negotiating. Ryan

Great and managing is also more focused on resources & "things" related to accomplishing a task. Ryan
Yes & I would add to this the ability to make the other person feel very safe in opening up & admitting mistakes, etc. Only when they feel safe in doing this can real learning take place. Ryan
Great ideas. Remember that a presentation should be much like a well written paper beginning with a thesis statement/sentence that briefly & concisely describes the goal of the presentation. Ryan
Yes, the ability to motivate & keep the morale up is a key skill for supervisors. Ryan
Makes sense & as those less experienced team members gain more experience hopefully you will find that they too will be able to join in the goal setting process. Ryan

Great point regarding the consideration of time & resources. I think this is something that those in leadership must always remember: some goals may seem reasonable but if we don't have access to the needed resources or if time is too short then the goal becomes unreasonable. Ryan
