About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Great summation Kathy & I completely agree. The key is to remember that a person can be both a coach & a manager, they're different skill sets needed at different times. Ryan
Great thoughts, especially regarding your comment on seeking their ideas on making improvements. A key aspect of coaching is to let the "coachee" do a lot of self-discovery, rather than feeling the need to "tell" them how to do something. Ryan
"Variety is the spice of life." A very old statement but I have found it to be very true in my presentations. The more variety I can use, the more engaged my audience is, especially when we are together multiple times. Ryan
Two great ideas that stand out to me: 1) Supporting evidence is always a great idea 2) A call to action is a great way to wrap up the presentation & measure success. Thanks for the great reminders. Ryan
These are all great ideas. I especially like your idea of the option to pre-submit questions. This will help them to anticipate your presentation & also give you a chance to prepare for those tougher questions. Ryan

Yes, explaining the "why" behind a goal or objective is very important step that is often overlooked. Ryan
This is a great idea. I also recommend finding some interesting stories that tie to the point you're making. People will remember these stories & they help them stay engaged. Ryan
Yes and another aspect of listening is paying attention to know if the other person really wants you to say anything at all. Sometimes we get too busy listening so we can then solve their problem or show how "smart" we are, when really they just want someone to listen. This is important too. Ryan

Great points & also important for the supervisor/leader to make sure that everyone involved understands how the goal matches the overall mission & vision. Ryan
Great points. Regarding making it relevant I once heard a speaker make the point that it is the speaker's job to make the application, don't just leave it up to the audience. Thanks for the reminder. Ryan
