About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

John, That is definitely a challenge. Are you one who uses your hands too much, what I call a hand talker? Or are you more in the camp of they feel like they're just hanging at your sides? Dr. Ryan Meers
Miriam, I'm glad this was helpful. And how great that you have a feedback mechanism right there for you. Best wishes, Ryan. Dr. Ryan Meers
John, It really is amazing how big a difference it can make to simply project our voices & as you said be authoritative, yet friendly. Not only does this communicate to our audience better, but it really does help us feel more confident as well. Dr. Ryan Meers
Billy, Thanks for sharing your great experience Billy. I too have found a lot of help in repeating back or having others repeat back what they heard me say/what I heard them say. This allows me to understand their emotions better as well as help clarify anything that might be confusing to them. Dr. Ryan Meers
Tina, Yes, anytime we can help our students learn how to work together as a team & then problem solve together as a team, this is powerful. Dr. Ryan Meers
John, Yes, as you pointed out sometimes we don't get to determine the exact information we teach, however we do get to determine how we present the information & incorporate those experiences. Dr. Ryan Meers
Michael, You provide a great example of continuous learning & keeping yourself up to date in your field & also sharing that information with your students so they benefit too. Dr. Ryan Meers
Steven, It is definitely an advantage when our students already know one another & can form their own groups based on knowing one another. Dr. Ryan Meers
Steven, It is always amazing to me to note the power of good, strong eye contact. As you said it does show our students that interest as well as making them feel like a person. Dr. Ryan Meers
Jody, Yes, when we have that strong baseline of main points this helps give us a reference point as the instructor as well as giving our students that reference point. Dr. Ryan Meers
