About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Stephen, multi-tasking is definitely a "skill" possessed by most Gen Yers. However it is important that we help them realize that multi-tasking is not always the best option as it can interfere with their retention. Dr. Ryan Meers
Stephanie , this is definitely a struggle with info addicted learners. All I can say is keep at it & enforce those rules. Many of your students probably do appreciate it as they find the technology distracting. Dr. Ryan Meers
Chris, great point here. While the new technologies can be overwhelming & sometimes intimidating, there are many possibilities for improving our instruction. Dr. Ryan Meers
ellen, you are very right on all of these points. Another key skill we can teach Gen Yers is to become good customers of information. Often a skill that is lacking when they are bombarded with so much info. Dr. Ryan Meers
Sandra, this is definitely true. What strategies have you found to be successful? Dr. Ryan Meers
Florita, these are all great ideas & I'm thrilled to know you gleaned a lot of learning from the course. Best wishes on incorporating these concepts into your course. Dr. Ryan Meers
Jan, I think you demonstrate the qualities of a good teacher by considering these aspects. The only suggestion I would have is if you have a smaller class where you can check with all of the students to see if any are allergic & then you won't have to use such a large quantity. Best wishes. Dr. Ryan Meers
Michele as you point out if we are not current in our field our students know this & it will hurt our credibility. Dr. Ryan Meers
Michele, you demonstrate a vital skill in teacher/learners; the ability to take that information instantly & think about its application. Dr. Ryan Meers
Terri, you are right & it is very important that the student let the instructor know of their disability. Dr. Ryan Meers
