About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Ellen, you are right on that the best instruction helps students connect their current level of understanding with the new information being presented. This of course is dependent upon those strong communication skills. Dr. Ryan Meers

Beverly , I agree regarding the need for coaching in private. I would also add that coaching is a great skill to use when helping employees with their development for advancement. They may be a star performer & I can still help coach them to further success. Dr. Ryan Meers
John, this is a great point. I would add it's just as easy to assume a group is at the basic level, when they may be a little more advanced than the last group. Meeting them where they are is key. Dr. Ryan Meers
Andrew , this is a great point. I always encourage my speech students to look at all of the demographic factors for their audiences. Dr. Ryan Meers
Matt, yes & a big part of the humor is being able to laugh at yourself! Dr. Ryan Meers
Beth, these are great skills for any supervisor to have & I would add to the enthusiasm that it's also an enthusiasm for leading others. Dr. Ryan Meers
Edward, this is a great example of the value of multi-sensory learning as it can help create that connection & really help students tune into what's going on with them & in their world. Dr. Ryan Meers

Jon , yes, there is always so much learning opportunity in the groups beyond just the task at hand. You mentioned several of them here & they really are great prep for the career world. Dr. Ryan Meers
Jon , this is a great idea & those silly examples really can be great posts for recall in the "heat" of the moment. Dr. Ryan Meers
