About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Rebecca, yes, you nailed it right on the head. The goal must stretch us, yet definitely be something we can accomplish. Dr. Ryan Meers
Ronald, yes, there are some job specific skills. I would say that a supervisor should know the job that his/her reports are doing, but make sure that he/she is not doing it for them but needs to focus on leading. Dr. Ryan Meers
Timothy , yes, subtlelty in coaching is a good idea. It is also important for our reports to know that they can bring their challenges & aspirations to us for some good advice. Dr. Ryan Meers
Brandon, I agree. This is definitely the heart & value of experiential learning. Dr. Ryan Meers
Jodi, that is a great way to challenge them & to adapt to their comfort with shorter time frames. Dr. Ryan Meers
Holly, this is precisely why we need to make sure that we are recognizing the value of the quick information era & helping them learn the value of the library & the "slower" information resources. Dr. Ryan Meers
Thomas, I agree & I think by bringing in the new technology we can demonstrate that often the core/basic concepts don't change, just the tools. If we don't show this, there may be a temptation for our students to assume the basics are outdated as well as our technology. Dr. Ryan Meers
Beth, I agree that when possible we should try to mix up the generations in the groups for the very reasons you state here. Dr. Ryan Meers
Beth, this is one of the first things I harp on with my public speaking students. It portrays weakness & a lack of self-assurance when we do not make eye contact. Dr. Ryan Meers
Beth, and I think in these situations we have to show them that we want to help & remind them of the resources available. Dr. Ryan Meers
