I have found that when the student is motivated ,it is more like he or she is on a mission,they know what they want to accomplish and they are much more enthusiastic about seeing the end result. this makes the teaching of the subject much more rewarding also because the motivation is very apparent and present!

Students with disabilities

I thought that this was a very good course as it really helped me to understand how to prepair myself for students with disabilities in my class, I have had a student with a mobility disabilitiy in a class in the past and was really not prepaired for it! I know feel that I have some knowledge about what i can do the next time to be more prepaired.

RETENTION

Retention starts the first day the student walks through your classroom door! I always try to be there the first day and every day to meet and greet with the student when they first walk in. this makes them feel more at home and seems to comfort them so that they can talk to you, should they have any questions or concerns.

distractions

we share a computer room with alot of other instructors, often when i am trying to concentrate on something like this course, there alot of other instructors in the same room doing different things or just talking with each other, I find it very difficult to concentrate on something when there is so much distraction.

PROCTASTINATION

PROCTASTINATION IS SOMETHING I AM ALL TOO FAMILIAR WITH, MY WIFE PROCTASTINATS ON EVERYTHING AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY. I TRY TO EXPLAIN TO HER , JUST DO IT . GET IT DONE AND GO ON WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, BUT SHE JUST DOES NOT GRASP THE CONCEPT.

Challenging Students

I find it really hard for a student to really want to be sucessful in a class and then miss the first day of the class.I will get the student aside when he comes in on the second day of class and try to get some kind of idea why he would not show up for one of the most important days of the class and then try to encourage them to take it on themselves to make up for it in a way that suits them. if they do,then it makes me believe in their excuse !

power point

I beleve that the powerpoint is a great tool for instruction but I do not believe that someone who has no knowlage of the subject can come in to a classroom and be able to instruct the class from a pp because you need to be able to magnify the pp and understand what is being said!

testing

we generaly have 3 test through the three week course and I feel that this gives both the student and me a way to gauge whether the students are understanding what is being instructed or if I need to change how i am giving them the information because they are or are not understanding!

redirecting a question

I find this to be very helpful to get the students to start thinking.when a question is ask, I will ask the class who can answer it or who has another idea about how they would answer it.this way it can introduce many different concerns into the conversation.
