About me

Activity

I have been teaching for over 30 years. I have always used active learning by changing activities. It was great to read that someone has described what I have been implementing for so long. Now I have jargon to go along with the actions. I can assure anyone not sure whether to use active learning with their adults learners that class will never be the same. As an instructor you will not want to return to lecturing. Students will be more engaged and excited about class. Try it once you will enjoy the results.
Although colleges need to be honest about a student's chances to be successful, I believe we need to be motivators that assist the hard working student who may have a language, or learning deficiency. Sometimes the most successful students are those who work hard, are committed and have the GANAS (desire) to succeed. I was one of those students; however, instructors who believed in me motivated me to stick it out. I am paying it forward by being a cheerleader for each of my students.
The quote "Education is going from unconscious to a conscious knowledge of our ignorance." holds true for me as I complete this course. Although I have had over thirty years in the education filed; I am a life long leaner. I have acquired information that will benefit the company for whom I work and me in my personal journey through life. I can see why it is a required course for all new employees. I will endeavor to act upon what I have learned and, in so doing, become a better employee and instructor.
Many returning students feel unsure and afraid of failing. If we help develop relationships to support students, it will be less likely that a student will quit by surprise. Someone will get to the student before matters get worse. Great information was provided to help get a program started thank you.
TOO OFTEN WE WANT TO SOLVE OUR STUDENTS' PROBLEMS. WE FEEL HELPLESS WHEN WE DO OUR BEST AND THE STUDENTS CONTNUES A DOWNWARD SPIRAL. WE LEARN THAT WE CAN LISTEN, SUGGEST AND ADVISE BUT WE CANNOT SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS. I LIKE THE IDEA OF BEING A SOUNDING BOARD FOR OUR STUDENTS. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MODULE. I WOULD LIKE TO TEACH MY STUDENTS THIS INFORMATION.

If we could manage stress how great life would be. It isn't so much the things that happen to us that do us in.... no... it is our reaction to the stressor. Now at 55 I can get this. How do we get through to our students and kids that we have the magic answer and get heard? Good luck to all my fellow teachers. Let's go in there and share our pearls of wisdom. We learned that, "Stress promotes thoughts driven by how many resource reserves remain for coping. The greater and more prolonged the stress, the fewer reserves… >>>

We speak of retaining as if we could do more than motivate the unmotivated, incourage the discouraged, instruct the unknowing and guide the academically lost. We are teachers and that is what we do - help keep our students hooked on knowledge. Lest we forget our passion.
It has empowered me in creating rapport with students and parents alike. Believe it or not these students look up to instructors. To them education is a perponal journey and the instructor is the leader.
Idea for recognizing ESOL Students will rise to the level of expectation. Our students need to feel that they are succeeding. ESOL students cannot compete with main stream students; however they can compete among each other. We need advisers for ESOL students by students and faculty that understand the students plight.
Although retention is extremly inportant; however, not all students respond to the same intervention. Learing support and ESOL students will need mentors to help them succeed. An ESOL advicer who would be responsible for the retention of these kinds of these students. Students will succeed with accomendations.
