About me

Activity

This is the 3rd course I've taken. In my opinion all teachers starting out and even one's like myself teaching for a while should think about taking this course. Was very interesting to read about all the types of students we encounter every day and every year without fail. From students that are quiet or cheating want to be center stadge and others.

“I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.”
Bill Cosby

I hope you all push yourselves to the next level and be the best you can be. Happy Teaching !!

Anytime I catch someone cheating the first time I ask why? We then have a chat about the information that I am teaching is very important for them to be successful. I then bring in person they cheated off of and make them aware they will be in just as much trouble the if there is a "next time". This is not expected. This has worked for me over the years.

Wow this can get out of control if you let it. Over the last 2 years cell phones in the class have become a force to deal with. I use the nothing on your desk method to give me a clear view of whats going on. From day one I use A zero-tolerance policy. We all need to use a Zero tolerance form day one. What do you do ?

The first day of class is always my favorite. It sets the tone for the rest of the 13 months I will be with my students. I always start with getting to know the students, and try to get the students to interact with each other through some fun activities. For ex. students are put in very small groups to get to know each other. Groups are rotated to meet everyone. This lasts about 45 min. They then pick anyone from the class to tell the rest of us about that person. What do you do on the first day?

I would love to hear from anyone in education on what makes you stand out as a good teacher.

I have a few things I can share about myself.

First I teach with Enthusiasm.

I Incorporate Humor  when every possible.

I show a true support and concern about the students success. I also remain humble.

I thought oh please I know this stuff WELL ........ I was so glad to be a part of this course ED 103.  This course makes you remember to hit as many learning styles as you can while teaching. I have never used standardized testing and make new tests up every year. This course just confirned to me I'am on the right path to being a great teacher some day.

Hello everyone I just wanted to start a chat about making tests in general. I've been teaching a while and I have seen so many teachers just use the same test over and over again. In my opinion it needs to be "tweeked" every year, things in my field continue to change and so do the students. All classes are different and what was easy for one group of students will be hard for another. Unless you want to just "scale " the test and make everyone happy including yourself. Maybe we should all look in the mirror and see… >>>

I would like to just make a small note. I love questions and answer sessions in class. I use many of the tech. talked about in this lesson. I just wanted to mention that I never stop with questions and answers. All my studets know anytime my office door is open they can have a question and answer session with me. I am willing to put aside what ever I'm working on to help the student. If I can not offer my time then I just shut my door. My door is open about 99.9% of my day to students.… >>>

In my opnion it is so important to find out from the start what type of learning styles make up your new class. I ask them to write down what style they think is best suited to their learning style. This helps me make sure I hit the different areas harder if need be.

I have been teaching form many years. It was a great refresher for me and I think ALL new teachers coming into the field should be involved with these programs. Wish it was around when I had first started.
