I found it's good to use Rubrics to clearly assess students work. I will use Rubrics, which I will give out at the beginning of the lesson, to make clear objectives to my students about what is expected from that assignment. 

Timely and coureous communication with students is essential for helping them communicate effectively. Messages should be considerate and reviewed before posting. On discussion board there should only be general assignment messages and communication tha all can read, all personal things like grades and criticisms should be communicated through email only. Be very clear that in the online classroonm communication is part of their grade and they must participate. They can be encouraged through making introductions, having them moderate a communication assignment, and just sharing.,

I leatrned how clear and concise communication is very important online. You need to set specific details such as when and how often to check email: how often and when I will check email; when I am in office and out of office. Guidelines for appropriate communication should be given so no question as to what is approporiate and what is not appropriate. So the students don't get frustrated I need to deliver quality instruction via modules with specific lessons to my students needs. I need to understand the course delivery format so i can guide my students through online learning efficiently and with little frustration.
