It is important to get feedback from a variety of sources to effectively evaluate a course.

I like the idea of self- and peer- reviews. Students will develop critical thinking skills by doing that, and it could potentially help them understand the concepts being taught at a deeper level.

The challenge in online courses is developing effective means of communication and community. It's important to model effective communication to the students and help them feel comfortable sharing with each other.

Consistency is a great tool for success. It is also important to use a variety of learning methods (along with consistency) to accommodate a wider range of student learning styles.

It is my responsibility to help all students progress in their learning. When problems come up it is also my responsibility to help resolve the issues, following proper protocol and also being sensitive to student needs and abilities.

It is important to recognize the different learning types of students and also to give everyone an opportunity to engage and share their thoughts. The instructor should be involved in discussions and regularly give feedback to help shape and convey the expectations.

I think it makes a big impact to make personal contact with each student, in a non-threatening way, at the beginning of the course. Maybe send a personalized email or welcome message.

Even is the instructor feels confident and knowledgeable with the course content, there is still a lot of other managerial skills that need to be learned and understood to be successful.
