Formative assessments are excellent tools to demonstrate to students as to how well they are retaining the lesson objective. The instructor will also be able to tell whether or not the assessment is effective by analyzing the students' scores and utilizing them to enhance the assessment.
I always pose questions upon completion of learning objectives to evaluate if I covered the concept thoroughly.
I know that when I teach a class where the content is especially challenging to grasp I have to alter my delivery to reach each learning style.

I try to find a quality of myself in my students.  It is so important to remember how difficult it was for you before you set out to become accomplished in your chosen field.  How many times were you frustrated and felt like giving up?  Remember you could be that one person to change your student's life in a positive way.  You need to be empathetic, understanding, and knowledgeable about not only their triumphs, but their failures too.  Isn't that how we all learn?!? By making mistakes, we learn valuable life lessons that we can hopefully overcome our challenges and mentor others… >>>

Always keep in mind that your job doesn't only provide for the transferral of knowledge, but it actually allows for students to rethink about why they are there. If you are not excited about your daily instruction, they will recognize this and it will reflect upon their desire to put forth the effort to take on the challenges of school and be willing to be determined to graduate.
As an instructor, you should seek out opportunities to apply the class content to what the students would actually use it for once they are in the workforce. These work-based scenarios will pique their interests and instill in them the reason why they enrolled in the first place, which was to become productive citizens within their chosen career field.

Students in most classes come from many diverse backgrounds, ages, and instructional/learning preferences. They know and understand how they were taught in the public school system and sometimes are accustomed to that style of learning or may be dissatisfied with their childhood learning experiences and expect a proprietary school to meet and/or exceed their expectations. Sometimes it is a difficult task for the instructor to take all of these different learning styles and preferences into consideration while still covering the core competencies of the course. In my experience as an instructor, I have found that sometimes sharing your life experiences… >>>

I have been teaching for over 15 years in many diverse capacities. I think that it is important to continually look for new ways to energize how we, as instructors, feel about the field of teaching.  It is very easy to become "burned out" on what we teach, especially if the course variation is not changed periodically.  The students definitely recognize our motivation level as well as their own and it reflects their engagement in the course.

As an instructor your primary goal is to continually monitor whether the students have mastered the learning objective for the day's lesson. One way to do this is by asking questions periodically throughout the class instructin to ensure that each objective is covered thoroughly.
Discussion Comment
I believe that when you first meet your class as an instructor that the students need to understand what your expectations are in accordance with the syllabus. The assigments, projects, and assessments should be clearly explained, as well as, the course rules that demonstrate the students' adherence to professional standards that are expected to transfer to the workplace upon graduation.
