Suggesting a shift away from using the word "why" was interesting to me; I don't think I realized the possibility of causing defensiveness through one simple word just asking for clarification. "What makes you say that?" it is, then! 

The course reminded me that mentor-student communication thrives the same as in most interpersonal relationships; proceeding with curiosity instead of preconceived notions is the key to growth.
