As leaders, what are some of the small things you do that generate trust in your team?

Over the past 12 years, and in the 8 years that I hold leadership positions and responsibilities, I have learned nothing is more powerful in leading that creating hope. It is  hope that keeps teams together, and push them to continue towards the shared goal. Of course, hope should be parallel with concrete actions. A leader must be visible and practically act the hope he or she tries to create.

Of course, we studied that managers and leaders share certain skills. But I was wondering what to focus more on when thinking of higher/senior level positions in post-secondary education institution. Should I be focusing more on leadership skills, or management skills?

I have learned that in a position of decision making, you have to be equipped with both leadership, and management skills. You need to inspire, lead, motivate, and effectively communicate to be a leader.
