Day one i usually assign someone as a yes and assign someone to be no. That way when I ask a question and no one answers, i point to the correct answer person and they have to say yes/no. then i ask why is the answer what it is. it keeps them focused because they never know when i am going to point and they actually start to look foward to being put in the spotlight. and if they drift off i point just to see if they are paying attention.
the first day is problably the most important because you set the rules, you tell the students what is expected of them and what you expect of them. this is why being prepared is important.

it is essential to be prepared for the class for severeal reasons. 1) you dont have to stop and lose your rythem while lecturing to find a training aid. 2)telling the students what they are doing the next day prepares them for what they will learn 3) when you set up the class ahead you will find out if supplies are needed. plus it is just professional
