I learned important information concerning consumer protection and various types of communication.

This highlights a question that came up in a zoom review that I was holding. Recording of the session was brought into question during a zoom review session with members of the class. Can one record a session and deseminate to the zoom participants? One point to consider wa whether all of the participants were from the same classs. I have run zoom reviews with students from different campuses and one has to consider disclosure of student information between different classes.

Clearly FERPA is not only designed to protect student privacy, but it also provides protections to the institution. By clearly laying out requirements for access to records, both the student and the institution are protected.

Interstingly enough, I learned that a practice that one of college professors used to employ while returning exams was highly likely to be a violation of FERPA. The professor would begin the returning of exams by posting the grade ranges on the board along with the number of students that fell into each range. The professor would then hand out the exams in the order of the ranges. For example, say there were 10 students that received a 90-100 and 15 that received a 80-89, the professor would hand out the grades in this order starting with highest score. In… >>>

FERPA, a law passed in1974, provides protections of a student's educational records, including who has access to these records.
