About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Byron, Each day of class the instructor should walk in with an abundance of energy! The enthusiasm will definitely rub off to the students. Patricia Scales
Hi Andrea, Students want to know how the information is going to benefit them. Students will buy into the course once they understand the relevance of the course either/both personally/professionally. Patricia Scales
Hi Brian, I concur! Excitement definitely starts with the instructor. The instructor should let their enthusiasm be contagious to all students. Patricia Scales
Discussion Comment
Hi Cynthia, Instructors are very vital when it comes to retention. The brunt of retention truly falls on the instructor. The instructor sees the students more than anyone else in the building. Patricia Scales
Hi Bernard, Great way to change things up, and this is fun as well. Students like variation, and they love having fun while learning. Patricia Scales
Hi Kerry, Examples also let students know that this can be done. Students have a better understand if they can see a visual of what is expected of them. Patricia Scales
Hi Mary, Awesome! Rubrics provide great clarity for students. Rubrics let students know exactly what they need to do to do well. With a rubric students should have a real good idea of what their grade will be before submitting their work. Patricia Scales
Hi Ashlee, If you talk things up, students will jump on the band wagon add share their stories, experiences, ideas, etc. Patricia Scales
