About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Tiffany, Nicely stated! Students are definitely not always right! We must let our students know when they are out of line. We are here to guide/teach our students. Teaching is a lot like parenting. Patricia Scales

Hi Elizabeth, Great way to handle students when they are to be reprimanded. No one likes being embarrassed. Students will get real ugly with you if your try to embarrass them in front of others. Patricia Scales
Hi Mary, You are right! Students love the hands-on portion of the class. Pure lecture seems to be ineffective with some students. Students retain more when they can actually become actively involved. Patricia Scales
Hi Qadar, Awesome teaching tactic. I can tell you want to be very effective as an instructor. Students can really give us great feedback to make us even better as an instructor. Patricia Scales
Hi Elizabeth, You may want to have the students turn the steps into questions and put the answers on flashcards. There is just something about flashcard that really helps students to remember their information. Patricia Scales
Hi Mike, I agree! I have seen when you tell students to put their complaint in writing their attitude becomes a lot better, and after thinking about things, they quickly determine that it is not a valid complaint. Patricia Scales
Hi Kathleen, Yes, you understand how the student/teacher relationship is suppose to be. We need to serve as role models to students not their friends. Patricia Scales
Hi Kathleen, I have encountered this as well. Most of our students need to be reminded constantly. Students must realize in the real world you are told one time to do something, and you will be held accountable without constant reminders. Patricia Scales
Hi Bonita, This lecture/hand-on combination works well! Students need to be able to apply what they have learned. Patricia Scales
Hi Sheila, Love it! Having fun while learning! Students retain more if they are having fun while learning. Patricia Scales
