About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Sally, Awesome response! You are right on point! Admit to not knowing, find out, and then share. This approach will get you more respect than anything. No one knows it all. Patricia Scales
Hi Panagiotis, You have it! As long as the lesson is not all lecture, students tend to be more engaged. Students enjoy and need a variety. Patricia Scales
Hi Patrick, Students really enjoy the interacting portion of learning. Students love to do activities. Everyone looks forward to having fun, even when learning is involved. Patricia Scales
Hi Joseph, What a great methodical approach to generate critical thinking. Students tend to have better thoughts when the approach is more systematic. Patricia Scales
Hi Kathleen, Some students will not do what they are suppose to for anything. We just have to keep encouraging, and once we have done our parts by pushing to the extreme, we have to be content. Patricia Scales
Hi Christina, Some courses allow students to see the course relevancy as to how the course will prepare them for their chosen field of study. Others courses we have to help the students understand how the course is going to help them in their profession. Patricia Scales
Hi Christina, Students need to know exactly what is required of them so that they can produce quality work and do well in the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Dennis, Students really do feel more at ease when they have an example to go by! Patricia Scales
Discussion Comment
Hi Vincent, I concur! Educating is definitely a two-way process. The student must do their due diligence to grasp what the teacher is teaching. Patricia Scales
