About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Mike, Students need to know that we truly care about their success and them as a person. This caring is really shown through action. Patricia Scales

Hi Joey, It can sometimes be tough to convince students to stay in school. I ask a simple question. Do you really and truly want to be here? If the student answers yes, we can work through things. If the student says no, I do not waste any more of the student's time nor my time. Patricia Scales

Hi Emma, It is great to love what you do. Continue to lead our students in the right direction. Patricia Scales
Hi Marco, Absolutely! The instructor should always have higher standards than that of the student. Appearance says a lot. Patricia Scales
Hi Ashley, I like how the instructors are role modeling professionalism. Patricia Scales
Hi Kathryn, Once you have evidence that a student has cheated, the student should be reprimanded according to policy. You had concrete evidence. These two students really got a slap on the wrist with just a warning. The policy at my insitution is at the minimum, the student will have to repeat the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Arthur, I have found that some students will try to cheat on any type of assessment. We have to put things in place to try to minimize cheating. Patricia Scales
Hi Aimi, Absolutely! Every student is important and should be made to feel like they are important. Patricia Scales
Hi Phil, Students will ask this question. I professionally and tactfully let them know that it does not matter who made the decision, but it must be adhered to or else. This is certainly not a question an employee wants to ask an employer. Patricia Scales
Hi Kimberly, This is a good way to keep students awake. No one wants to be hit with the ball, therefore they are really paying attention so that they are not caught off guard. Patricia Scales
