About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Kathaleen, You really get your students involved, and they really have a say. I am more controlling. I make the decision, and if there are any problems I work with the student(s). Patricia Scales

Hi Sharon, We should certainly be the role model that we want our students to become. Patricia Scales
Hi Jennifer, I have been teaching for more than 23 years, and I am still learning. Teaching is a profession that will always be considered work in progress. Patricia Scales
Hi Samuel, Absolutely! Students want structure, and they want the instructor to take full control. Patricia Scales
Hi Cheryl, Great questions to present to students so that they can see the big picture. I also like to apply the situation to the workplace. Patricia Scales
Hi Rhonda, Great idea! Playing a game with your students is an exciting way to review. Students love having fun while learning. Patricia Scales
Hi Christine, It is good for students to know that we make mistakes too. Students like hearing about personal stories as they apply to their career. Patricia Scales
Hi Heidi, You are on point! All students should be treated the same. Befriending students is way too risky. I have known instructors to lose their job because of having a personal relationship with students. Patricia Scales
Hi Blanche, Absolutely! A line has to be drawn. We have to let students know that we genuinely care about them, but we do not need to befriend them. Patricia Scales
