About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Virginia, Great information to share with students to gain buy in. Students tend to believe informations as such when it comes from a reputable organizaton like the United States Labor Bureau. Patricia Scales
Hi Johanna, I agree! It is okay to be friendly with students but do not befriend students. It breaks down barriers when you become students friends. Students need to know that you are their instructor and will lead accordingly. Patricia Scales
Hi Vanessa, I am a 24-year veteran in teaching, and I always look for ways to improve even 24 years later. Professional growth is a good thing. Patricia Scales
Hi J, Attendance and punctuality are crucial to becoming a grad from the accounting program. Accounting is no cake walk. Most students must be in class in order to grasp the various concepts. Patricia Scales
Hi Paul, I agree! Sometimes I just give them a good stare, and they get it that they need to start paying attention. Patricia Scales
Hi Freddie, I like how you randomly choose students to groups, by doing this students pay attention because no one likes being put on the spot and not knowing. Patricia Scales
Hi George, I agree! Visual makes retention of information better. Patricia Scales
Hi Cheryl, I like how you get the students involved in the evaluations/comments so that they realize what was or was not done. Patricia Scales
Hi Sandra, You are on point! If students do not have a reason to come to class, they want. We have to keep them encouraged and motivated. Patricia Scales
Hi Robert, I love it! What a great way to promote learning and have fun at the same time. The better prepared a student is for a test the less likely they are to cheat. Patricia Scales
