About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Meghan, You really want your students to succeed! This puts a lot of work on you, but I can tell you are not bothered by that. My hats off to you for working hard to help your students succeed! Patricia Scales
Hi Mona, You also may want to try guided notes as well. Review sheets are very effective. Mini quizzes to help prepare for the big test are very helpful too. Patricia Scales
Hi Brady, It is awesome when students have great clarity of the course relevancy. Students understand the importance of the course when they understand the relevancy of the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Sherry, Super! We can't depend on our students to read the syllabus; most won't. Great job of discussing the syllabus with your students on Day 1. Patricia Scales
Hi James, Awesome wording to use with your students to promote buy in. Students see the relevancy once they understand that the course is going to benefit them in their profession. Patricia Scales
Hi Gregory, Nicely stated! You do a fantastic job with sharing course relevancy! I can tell you are excited about the curriculum, and you get your students excited. Keep up the great work! Patricia Scales
Hi Kim, You make sure you thoroughly cover EVERYTHING that will be on the test, and if time permits casually mention other things. Remember, time is of the essence. Patricia Scales
Hi William, Nicely stated! Guest speakers are priceless, and they bring book theory to real life! Students love guest speakers!! Patricia Scales
Hi Judy, I agree! As you are covering the syllabus you can really focus on the course relevancy. Patricia Scales
Hi Deborah, If you begin to keep old graded projects/assignments with students names marked out these things can serve as visual examples. Visual examples add great clarity. Patricia Scales
