About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Terry, Awesome ways to deter cheating. These practices really make it harder for students to cheat. Continue to monitor tests effectively. Patricia Scales
Hi Ronald, You are right! Guest speakers are priceless, and they bring so much into the classroom. Students love guest speakers and their positivity. Patricia Scales
Hi Frank, I too set a very firm tone on Day 1, but my students quickly realize that I am fun, yet strict, but genuinely care about their success. Patricia Scales
Hi Francis, Some students really and truly do not fully understand the importance of the syllabus. The syllabus is a tool that students should refer to on a daily basis. Patricia Scales
Hi Courtney, Students really need to hear and see course requirements. Some students need a verbal explanation from the instructor to understand, other students can read it for themselves and understand. It is good you cover both ways. Patricia Scales

Hi John, You are right! Someone has to be able to reach the student. We all play a role in retention. Patricia Scales

Hi Victor, Everyone plays a role in retention. Some students will open up more to their advisor than they will to their instructors. As long as someone can reach the student, we can possibly save the student. Patricia Scales

Hi Adam, The bulk of retention really does fall on the instructor because we deal with students more often than anyone else in the building. We have to sell our students on coming back the next day. Patricia Scales
