About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Wilson, You are very thorough with letting your students know what the requirements are. You really go the extra mile to ensure your students know. Your students can't use the excuse they did not know. Patricia Scales
Hi Shawntel, You have double coverage going on to ensure your students know exactly what is expected of them. There should be know surprises with your students. They know exactly what they are to do and where they stand grade wise. Patricia Scales
Hi Daniel, This generation of students really do get real excited when you teach from a technolgical perspective. These students are very tech savy, and they are driven by technology. Patricia Scales
Hi Albert, I love how you take your students back to our origin to generate excitement. I got excited just reading the response. I can imagine if you were my instructor and presented this to me. The excitement would be even higher. Patricia Scales
Hi Tammy, When students understand the relevance of a course as to how it relates to their chosen career, they really do gain excitement. Patricia Scales
Hi Daniel, People always tend to enjoy what they are most comfortable with. I am sure you get a much more positive response when you something such as hip hop because the students are familiar with this type of music. Patricia Scales
Hi Colleen, I like how you use this tactic. This tactic is a way for students to take ownership in the course based on the way you do it. Patricia Scales
Hi Francis, Nicely stated! As an instructor you have to be flexible and very quick on your feet. Things do not always go as planned, and you have to learn how to make adjustments quickly and go with the flow. Never let the students see you sweat...they do not know what your next move is. Only you know your next move.
Hi Francis, I am sure the comic strip is a great conversation piece! It really gives students something to think about. I like to promote buy in for my students by showing a PowerPoint based on how the course will benefit them in their career.
Hi Kimberly, Yes! The student/instructor relationship should be strictly professional. We can teach our students a lot about professionalism! We should always act as the professional that we want our students to become. Patricia Scales
