About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Vickie, Competition is good in this sense. Students really get into it, and they love it, and most importantly they learn and really retain the information. The proof is in the pudding. Students really do well on their tests from having played jeopardy. Patricia Scales
Hi Gerald, You may want to try some hands-on exercises as well to promote active learning. Students really love putting theory into action. Patricia Scales
Hi Juanito, Students really learn more by doing! A great practice is to lecture, demonstrate, and then have the students do. Patricia Scales
Hi Maria, Awesome exercise! Some students will go to the extreme to share thorough research. In a situation as this, students will sometimes give even more information based on their research than the instructor would have shared. Great exercise to get students involved. Patricia Scales
Hi Elizabeth, Wow, what a great exercise to get students to understand. Even reading the response I used critical thinking for your questions before reading how the students would response. This is an awesome critical thinking exercise. You really get a great understanding. I am sure your students appreciate your thoroughness. Patricia Scales
Hi Malana, I concur! Our students need as many role models as possible. Students really need people that they can look up to. Patricia Scales
Hi Wayne, Yes, they do! Silent students open up more in a smaller setting. Patricia Scales
Hi Lucia, I concur! A review is always a good thing. Make it known exactly what is expected, do not have any grey areas. Patricia Scales
