About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi William, Some students do have a change of interest. I deal with these on a case-by-case basis. There are some students that really need your instituion, and then there are other students who can make it at any 4-year university. You have to know your students. Patricia Scales

Hi William, I love it! We have to be our students biggest cheerleaders. We must cheer them on daily. Do we as instructors get tired? Of course, but we have to regain our energy level. Patricia Scales
Hi David, I agree! Listening is paramount! Sometimes the student simply needs to get things off of their chest. Patricia Scales
Hi Jiba, As instructors we should want to get to know our students. Relationship building is important. Remeber, to keep the relationship strictly professional. Patricia Scales
Hi Ramondo, I concur! Guest speakers are priceless, and they help in more ways than one. They certainly help bring book theory to real life. Guest speakers speak from actual experience. Patricia Scales
Hi Darrren, Sharing personal experiences/stories as they apply to the course content is very exciting for students. Students want to hear how things really are in the real world. Patricia Scales
Hi Jeremy, I love the motivation. All students love being placed on what I call the "Wall of Hall of Fame". It makes you very proud when your work is on display. Patricia Scales
Hi John, Changing from slides to another teaching method is generally welcomed by students. Students enjoy group activities, role playing, scenarios, case studies, field trips, guest speakers, etc. Patricia Scales
Hi Mary, Role playing is really enjoyed by students because it makes learning feel real. Role playing will be various scenarios they will encounter in the workplace. Patricia Scales
Hi Carolyn, I think students helping each other is great! Sometimes students can explain a concept differently from the instructor, and the student gets it. Patricia Scales
