This was very enlightening

I also explain that their externships should be treated as job interviews in disguise.

Personally, I do not thrive with a micromanager as my supervisor.  However, I feel that I have sometimes been forced to become a micromanager when a direct report continually underperforms and despite repested feedback sessions, does not improve.

We really need to invlove more departments in orientation.  First impressions are lasting and more involvement will equal more buy-in.

I, too, was surprised at how what would be considered a "basic" course was a great place to renew and refresh an instructor who has been in the education field for 10 years.  Well Done Max Knowledge!
