I have been teaching for almost three years and recognize many of the mistakes I made as a new instructor in the reading. The reading also helped highlight the mistakes that I still seem to be making. Mainly, not always being prepared or trying too hard to gain my student's approval instead of their respect.

Luckily, I have not had angry students. However, I have had shy, angry, and teaching students. I've never had hard evidence of students cheating, but I've made it clear that my eye was on them.

I really enjoyed the minute summary suggestion. I often get through my material very quickly. I love my subject and sometimes get carried away. I think the minute summary would help to keep my students' attention and help solidify what they learned in lecture. 

I find this material very useful. I sometimes struggle with the syllabus information. My courses are built for me, so I am responsible for delivering the material and making it meaningful to my students. However, the syllabus comes pre-made as well. It does not contain any due dates and directs the students to the academic catalog for late policies. At the beginning of my term, I asked if I could edit the syllabus, and the response I got was "It's pretty comprehensive, but here you go." I don't see how a syllabus that doesn't have an accurate timeline is comprehensive.… >>>
