About me

Activity

Teaching adult learners will require a variation in learning tools. All students retain information at different levels and as a facilitator you need to add concrete, hands on activities that student to relate information too for future recall.

When it comes to protecting students information it is the job of all staff. Talking in the hall about a student may be a violation of FERPA if overheard. HIPAA and FERPA go hand and hand. Students come in with medical issues and sometimes we request health information that must be keep behind a locked door.

I have learned that a graduate of a school that becomes an employee is also protected under FERPA.

I had to get use to the FERPA laws when it came to posting grades. When I was in schools, many moons ago, and grades were posted is was like a competition. Students wanted to always be at the top of the list. I now see how visibly posting students grades can be a violation of their rights.

FERPA is not the the safety of educational information it is also for the overall well being of our students. Many of our students already have an established social life. There are many times students when students need the staff to be aware of the FERPA policies for their protection.

I have learned time management is very important when working from home. Since the state of the world, we have been thrown into this online world and now we need to adjust. The one thing I can say is treat it like you are going to work. Leave time for family, take lunches and don't return to work after you log out for the day. The forms that were included are great tools for starting to work on your time mangement skills.

I will use the games to asses student performance and as a communication tool. Short assessments or analysis can help to improve a game or support a struggle student.

Games are only beneficial if they complete what they set out to do. Games must be well thought out and designed properly in order to keep students engaged. Students become very frustrated when there is no flow.

I have noticed that with the changing times that you are not considered a "loner" if you play video games. Those that play MMOPG meet people from all over the world and they are sharing more than the game experience.

I use gaming and simulations when I teach anatomy. I use a variety of different games in which some are computer based and hands on in the classroom. I brings a since of enjoyment into the learning environment. The games can also be repeated over and over which gives the student another way to learn the material.
