Communication is key to successful learning - whether you are teaching a synchronous or asynchronous course.  Also, it is important to remember that what the instructor implies is not always what the student understands.  This is why communication is always important.

Tools are a great way to engage your students.  Not only do they help students grasp the course concepts, but also  develops a connection between students and the instructor.

Sometimes I have difficulty remembering student names - especially with larger classes of 20 or more plus now they wear masks.  This module has great tips about connecting with students.

This section provided great insight in how to manage and properly respond to different types of students.  It provided some excellent tips as well.

This section was very helpful.  It has great tips on how to engage students that may be bored in class or maybe they are concetrating on other things rather than the lecture.  Great idea on group activities to engage students and more importantly, communication from both the instructor and student is key to success!

Great course so far.  I think the icebreaker is really good for a first class, especially if the class is the student's first experience at the university/college level.  I typically divide my students in teams of 2's, 3's  or 4's (depending on number of students) and they ask basis questions (what is your name, degree, where are you from and something interesting about you).  Then each student introduces his/her parnter to the class.  It's a fun ice-breaker and helps students get to know each other.
