This module helped me understand that skills-based coaching is most effective when it becomes part of a consistent and documented advising process. I learned the importance of analyzing job postings, identifying competency gaps, translating student experience into employer-ready language, and preparing learners for real hiring practices. I plan to apply this by standardizing these techniques in my advising work and sharing them with the team so the approach is consistent and sustainable.

This module helped me understand that effective career coaching should be closely connected to current employer expectations. I learned the importance of understanding how employers screen candidates, which competencies they value, and how their interview processes are structured. I plan to apply this by maintaining more frequent contact with employers and using that information to better prepare students for résumés, interviews, and the overall hiring process.

This module helped me understand the importance of having structured conversations that help learners recognize and clearly communicate their skills. I learned that asking for specific examples and evidence makes it easier for them to identify competencies they may be overlooking. I plan to apply this by using more intentional questions, evidence mapping, and employer-focused language when supporting students with their career development.

This module helped me understand that effective retention requires a coordinated effort across the entire institution. Admissions, orientation, mentoring, academic support, student engagement, and career services all play an important role in helping students persist and succeed. I plan to apply this by strengthening early intervention, improving follow-up, and creating more connections between academic progress, student support, and professional goals throughout the student journey.

This module helped me understand that career services can also play an important role in student retention. When students clearly see how their studies connect with future job opportunities, they are more motivated to continue and complete their programs. I plan to apply this by integrating employability resources earlier in the student journey and by creating more opportunities for students to connect their academic progress with their professional goals.

This module helped me understand that student retention is strongly connected to how involved students feel with their institution. Academic support is important, but social connection, communication, and a sense of belonging also make a big difference. I plan to apply this by creating more opportunities for students to connect with faculty, services, and each other, and by strengthening follow-up strategies that help students feel supported throughout their academic journey.

This module helped me understand how important orientation and mentoring are for student retention. I learned that students need clear guidance, support, and connection from the beginning of their academic journey. I plan to apply this by strengthening onboarding activities, providing more personalized follow-up, and making sure students know the services and resources available to support their success.

This module reinforced the idea that student retention starts before enrollment. A clear admissions experience helps students understand the program, expectations, available support, and career outcomes from the beginning. In my role, I plan to apply this by strengthening onboarding, improving communication during the first weeks, and making sure students know where to find academic and support services. I also want to identify potential risks early and provide more personalized follow-up to help students stay engaged and successfully progress in their studies.

In this module, I learned the importance of adapting the leadership style to the situation and the team’s needs, rather than basing it solely on the leader’s personality or temperament. I also understood that trust, empathy, and effective communication are key elements to inspire and guide others.

I plan to apply this in my professional environment by balancing management with leadership, fostering collaboration, personal growth, and a shared sense of purpose within my team.
