I think the problem-based technique can be used in most any classroom and does go toward helping the students in learning critical thinking skills. Many students have not been asked to learn these skills in other jobs.

This was helpful as I have heard the terms thrown around: flipped classroom, rubric, etc. Finally an explanation and justification. I much more readily accept it now since I have to understand the 'why' of what I am doing, not just told to do it that way.

We must adapt to the new learner, even as older more experienced teachers. Our goal is to reach the student, not force them to accept our methods.  The new learner is exposed to much more media than we were.

Goals and strategies are needed by students to be successful in online study.

Synchronous is basically face to face just maybe online. Asynchronous happens at any time through discussion boards, email, etc

Community of Practice I have not heard of before now.

Video media is great if you can find time to do it.

There are different student personality types that affect how each learns best. It is worth the time to identify who you have in your class. This enables you to respond and communicate more effectively with each.

I had not read about the differences in asynchronous and synchronous discussions before.

Introductions are very important to learn about each other and begin to establish a relationship to teach.
