About me

As Vice President of Product Development, I lead cross-functional teams of designers, developers, QA testers and product stakeholders to develop, launch, and improve products customers need and love.

Previously, I've worked in a variety of leadership roles in education / learning & professional development. Through my experience, I've become accustomed to working across departmental silos and with various stakeholders (executives, end-users, faculty, staff, students / learners, alumni, parents, regulatory agencies, partners and employers) to facilitate collaboration and advance common goals. In my previous roles, I've advocated for student needs and driven organizational change that helped educators do their best work, students thrive in their careers, and employers connect with quality talent.

Despite different contexts, a common theme in my career journey has been to do work that contributes to a mission which improves people's lives. It's also always been important for me to work with an organization whose values align with my own. I'm a listener, empathizer, customer advocate, servant leader, and lifelong learner. I'm never satisfied with status quo, I constantly strive for "better," and I'm driven by genuine curiosity to solve complex problems.

Paul, Saturation is definitely a challenge. I'm sure you already do this but something else I used to do, for our particularly challenging programs, was create events that engaged the local industry. In fact, we ended up having a pretty large annual conference for the local game industry in Arizona that attracted companies from outside of the local market. A video of the event can be seen here: http://youtu.be/qz3Q6-rXVtE. We marketed the event through grassroots efforts using social media, email, and even built a website using a free website building tool known as www.wix.com. What we did was hosted a… >>>

Angela, Angela, when you say these things engage your students, how are you measuring engagement? What are the indicators that let you know these are what engages your students on social media? Thanks. Robert Starks Jr.

Paul, What are the programs you reference when you say "certain" programs? These challenges are pretty universal with career professionals - do you have any methods you would like to share that others may find helpful? Are you thinking of some new techniques/methods to employ from what you've learned from the course? Thanks! Robert Starks Jr.

Angela, Facebook and LinkedIn are the platforms used most often by career services followed by Twitter. Managing multiple accounts can be a challenge. I am wondering if you have plans to use any other platforms even if just for curating information to share with your students. For instance, do you use Youtube to find interesting videos to post on your Facebook channel? Do you look for any great presentations on Slideshare to share with your students on Facebook? Do you have a LinkedIn group or career services page or are you just using individual accounts? What programs does your school… >>>

Paul, You're welcome. You'll find a ton of resources in the resources section of the course near the end that will provide even more information to help you become a social media master! This will likely give you more ideas on how to specifically leverage social media (and specific platforms) to help you achieve your career center goals. One thing many people ignore on LinkedIn are the apps. When you log into LinkedIn, if you look at the top navigation bar, you'll see an option that says "more." When you hover your mouse over it, you get a drop down… >>>
