Michelle, have you used smart boards? Not only are they expensive and require tech support but, I fell in love with the idea after coming across them at a NSTA conference and really wanted one. Now I am working where they have them and no one uses them because it takes a long time to learn how to use them and they hiccup frequently.

Funny you should ask we just covered burnout in my leadership class :) "

Burn out is:

Physical, emotional, and spiritual exhaustion among care givers Professional burnout is generally described as prolonged stress that impairs one's ability to perform his or her job in demanding situations. *Precursors to professional burnout include, but are not limited to, employee workload, chronic fatigue, compassion fatigue, balance between family and career, sickness absence, and loss of confidence. *Administrators must watch for early signs of professional burnout to improve retention and promote employee morale.  "

@rstarks : Do I have top start a discussion? I have responded to several

@TammyRyan : Sounds like a reasonable strategy. Most people will settle down if they beleive that someone is really going to hear what they have to say. You obviously have their trust that you will not only let them talk but that you will listen and hear them. You must be a good teacher.

@AMack40 : Eliminating students because they have had a lapse in judgment seems counter productive. Yes it m,akes it easier for the instructor but what have you achieved with the student? Sent another angry youth out into the world feeling like nobody is listening or cares? How old are your students? You are aware I am sure that the frontal lobe does not develop until well into the 20s. Bad judgement and choices are part and parcel of being a kid. Isn't our job to give them the skills to communicate so that they don't have to become so angry… >>>

Could you be more specific? What do you teach and who do you teach?

We all have bad days and days we would prefer to be anywhere but where we are and being open to the possability that something like that is happening in someone else's life will always let you error on the side of compassion.

Arisa,

I had not thought of doing a field trip to a potential employer, or someone who could change their lives in anyother way. What an interesting idea. Can you give some more specifics of where you take them and how you prepare them for the experience?

I almost skipped this course as the asessment suggested I start at 104 but I am glad I took itecause it reminded me of several things I had forgotten after not teaching for several years. I was in fact inspired to rewrite my next class presentation and I think the students are going to be pleasently surprised with the results. Its a good course whether or not you are an experienced teacher.

I'm going to include some teaching games to help break up the lecture.
