I learned that assessments don't have to be time consuming, a short quiz can be a good check-in to let you know how well, or not, the students understand what you have been teaching. It is important to adjust your teaching as needed, if assessments show lower comprehension. Also that practicum supervisors are in a great position to observe skills in action, and give feedback to both the students and the instructor as to what is going well and what improvements may be needed. Asking the right questions as an instructor can be a valuable learning tool, both to assess student comprehension and to expand on concepts. Using active listening when students are asking questions or giving answers shows respect and ensures that you pay full attention and don't interrupt them. It is important to reward or praise participation in class, whether or not someone has the exact right answer.

I have learned that the four major learning categories are Auditory, Written, Visual, and Kinesthetic, and that it is best to use different learning styles in each class to reach the majority of learners.
