The first week is the paramount time to set and uphold expectations. Additionally, pairing late enrollment students with a classmate for a buddy support system can alleviate some stress and confusion. 

Allowing students a chance to meet and speak with faculty members prior to starting class will build rapport and trust in who is guiding their education.

Orientation is a time when all departments can contribute to the cohesion of a person's transition from perspective to active student. Creating opportunities for students to engage with staff, other new students, and graduates will help them feel confident in their decision to attend school.

Ensuring that the pros outweight the cons for what students will need to sacrifice in exchange for a quality education will keep retention numbers in satisfactory standing.

I learned that communication is key in a crisis: Be forthcoming with all knowledge without speculating or sugarcoating, deliver information clearly and consicely, and listen as much as we speak.
